It is a real privilege to welcome you to Hatchell Wood Primary Academy.

At Hatchell Wood, our children are at the heart of everything we do. We want every child who walks through our doors to feel happy, safe, valued and proud to belong to our school community. Most importantly, we want them to enjoy coming to school, develop a love of learning and leave us having achieved the very best they can.

I believe that great schools are built on strong relationships. Children thrive when they know that the adults around them believe in them, care about them and have high expectations of what they can achieve. That is why we are committed to creating a warm and inclusive school where every child is known, understood and supported to succeed.

Our expectations of being Ready, Respectful and Safe underpin life at Hatchell Wood. Through these, we want our children to develop not only academically, but also as confident, kind and responsible young people who are ready to make a positive contribution to the world around them.

We also know that children achieve their best when school and families work together. We value the important role our parents and carers play and want Hatchell Wood to be a school where families feel welcomed, listened to and very much part of our community.

As Headteacher, I am incredibly excited about the journey ahead for Hatchell Wood. Alongside our dedicated staff team, I am committed to continually reflecting on how we can improve, celebrating what makes our school special and, above all, ensuring that we are the very best we can be for our children.

Our Values

At Hatchell Wood, our curriculum is designed to be engaging, purposeful, and ambitious, ensuring every child feels valued, challenged, and supported to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

We aim to foster a supportive and dynamic learning environment rooted in our core vision and with our curriculum built around five key drivers that guide our approach to education and personal development.

What we want our curriculum to do:

We aim to provide a rich, inclusive, and ambitious curriculum where we: 

• Aspire to ignite ambition and a love of learning, so every child believes they can succeed and achieve great things 

• Aspire to develop confident communicators with the vocabulary and language skills to express themselves clearly and access the world around them 

• Aspire to nurture inclusive, respectful individuals who value difference and stand up against discrimination in all its forms

• Aspire to enrich lives through real-world experiences and practical skills that prepare children for life beyond the classroom

• Aspire to foster emotional strength, independence, and a sense of wellbeing so children can thrive in the face of challenge

We will do that by making sure our curriculum is: 

• Broad, balanced and well sequenced, with clear progression across all subjects and key stages 

• Inclusive, using a range of adaptive teaching and scaffolds to ensure all learners can access the curriculum 

• Engaging, with meaningful topics, real-world contexts, and creative hooks 

• Enriched with visits and visitors, curriculum experiences and outdoor learning 

• Rooted in strong relationships and positive behaviour for learning 

We measure success through: 

• Pupil progress and attainment - Ongoing assessment informing responsive teaching, adaptions and personalised support 

• Monitoring and tracking – Regular data analysis informing same day and longer term interventions ensuring accessibility for all learners, including SEND and EAL pupils  

• Pupil voice - showing enjoyment, ownership, and a sense of safety and belonging 

• Social, emotional, and personal development - Success is measured not just by academic results but tracked through personal growth and readiness for the future. 

• High aspirations - with pupils ready for the next stage of learning and life 

We also have our Smart Seven Growth Mindset Skills which encourage independent learners with resilience and critical thinking skills.
